Recommend me some children's classics for summer out loud reading.

Did I miss it or did nobody say Alice in Wonderland ?

So, your summer’s nearly over, right? How’d all that reading work out? Was there much of it, or did you say ‘to hell with it!’ and spend a couple of months in Fiji?

Did anything you read strike a chord with your kids?

(If you did spend two month sunning yourself in Fiji, then feel free to let this sink back down. Lucky dog!)

I’d forgotten about this thread and updating it.

We are still working on the Harry Potter set. #3. It’s a long one and we take it in bites.

Naturally, they want to jump on up to #6.

Ah, fun! The third book is my favourite in the series, I think; it all takes a turn for the darker after this one. Still good though, as I’m sure you know

Yes that’s it, although I’d say six might be a bit young to follow that.

I’d second most things here, although with our kids some of the above were hit and miss. For example, my son likes The Hobbit, but my daughter doesn’t really get into it. They both really liked The House at Awful End (short series) and A Series of Unfortunate Events, although probably more if done with voices and such (they love both narrators from the books on CD as well). And they still both devour Encyclopedia Brown as light reading. Captain Underpants is also well appreciated.
