Another Robert Crais fan here. It’s funny, I never see or hear any other mention of him, no write-ups, no movie adaptions. I’ve been rereading his books on my Nook so it’s great to meet other fans.
Michael Connolly and Ian Rankin are the two I recommend most often. You can’t go wrong with their books.
I don’t think anyone has mentioned Dick Francis–only up to the mid-80s books though and certainly not the ones co-written with his son.
Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Milhorne series is similar, in that both authors have a spare writing style. Sometimes overly elaborate plots and double- and triple-twist endings are just too much.
