Recommend me some DVDs, please

jackalope, you can borrow the Citizen Kane and Treasure of the Sierra Madre DVDs my Mom got me for xmas.

I recommend highly the Firefly box set.

The Godfather collection and The Usual Suspects (special edition) both have a nice set of featurettes to keep one occupied for hours.

I just posted this in the DVD Commetaries
thread. These are just a few of my favorite movies with commentaries.

Cannibal the Musical With Trey Parker and Matt Stone and other cast members. Very enjoyable
Maniac/Narcotic another informative commentary on low budget exploitation films.
I Spit On Your Grave A very difficult movie to watch, however Joe Bob Briggs provides a very good commentary.
Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS Another difficult movie to watch, but it does have a fun commentary by Ilsa herself with a few others.
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Killer Klowns from Outer Space

Also most of Something Weird’s commentaries are very informative, especially the ones by Dave Friedman, one of the last of the exploitation/sexploitation masters.

Almost all the films released by Criterion are full of extras. And a great selection of titles from really obscure to Armageddon

You mentioned that you liked Jackie Chan…my favorite movie of his is Rumble in the Bronx. I’ve even seen it at Best Buy for $10-$15.

You seem to like intellectual dramas; try out the special editions of Memento and Traffic. Great movies with tons of extra features.

And I give a second to Alien Quadrillogy and LOTR Special Editions; both are definetly worth owning.

Hope you enjoy it. One of the most original movies I’ve seen lately. But the feature length text commentary on when you watch it the first time (believe me, there will be a second). Another great special feature on the DVD is an animated short called Snack and Drink or something like that which I really enjoyed.

If you want to see packed full of extras, try to obtain a copy of the unrated double-DVD edition of “Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger 4.”

It’s basically a special feature itself. If you’ve seen his other flicks there is some talk about them. That WAS a great DVD… except for the part with the jeans/his wife/bleeding thing. Errrg… pain.

Actually I’d seen it before; I just figured it would have cool bonus materials. And I was not disappointed; the “making of” bit, the featurette, and best of all, the theatrical trailer for The Banger Sisters!

When placed among all the Richard Linklater stuff, the Banger Sisters trailer becomes indescribably hilarious.

Thanks for all the recommendations, folks; keep 'em coming.

And vibrotronica, I’d love to borrow both of those; I’ll be sure to pester you about them when I see you New Year’s Eve.
