Recommend me some good fiddle music

The question is what do you want for fiddle? Do you want more classical? Modern? Celtic? Solely/mostly fiddle or other instruments also? Vocals or none?

Well here is a selection from my collection. I love the fiddle, and have quite a variety.

Leahy
Rankin Family
Ashley MacIsaac
Natalie MacMaster
Joshua Bell (he also took part in a small experiment to see who wouldstop and listen to him play/busk at a metro stop in Washington DC)
Vanessa Mae

I also really love Dr Draw (I happened across him at Stampede on stage one afternoon. I hadn’t planned to listen to the music that day but I stopped and watched the whole show as it was just wonderful… I also immediately bought all three of his CDs at the booth beside the stage lol)

Lots of good stuff in this thread, I’ll have to search out some of these.

A better Leahy link. This is B Minor played with the Chieftans.

Old Crow Medicine Show, perhaps?

Just stopping back in to say that I ended up going with Leahy, Stuart Duncan, and Aly Bain. Thanks for the suggestions, all!

Swarb is the best!

I also like Jay Ungar, Aly Bain (Boys of the Lough), Johnny Cunningham (Silly Wizard), Kevin Burke (Bothy Band) and Tommy Peoples (Bothy Band).

Brittany Haas is a fine, young American fiddler, and protege of Darol Anger.

Alasdair Fraser is a fantastic Scottish fiddler. Scottish folk music is pretty close to Irish music. You can listen to some of his stuff on this Amazon page.

Classical Violinist Nigel Kennedy has a huge body of work and it is incredibly varied. He has recorded all the classical standards and works inspired by Hendrix, The Doors and he now often plays with Polish jazz musicians.

Here he is with Kroke.

Here is Light My Fire

If you can stand three fiddles coupled with great sibling harmony singing, check out the Quebe sisters. Here they are on “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie,” kicking into high gear at 2:20.

I recall that from when it first happened. The Washington Post article is great reading.

Time for Three: three classically trained musicians (they play with the Philadelphia Orchestra) who perform amp-up versions of classical, country, and pop songs.
