Opera, like most kinds of performing art, exists on several sliding scales: \*the “escapism” scale \*the “tunefulness” scale \*the “looks convincing on stage scale” \*the “heavyweight drama” scale (not bad for making it up as I go, I suppose…) Are any of those things more/less important to you than others?
