Recommend movies about perky teenage/college girls

Well, being the one of us who has seen both series, yeah. And since Buffy is the best American TV show of all time, I’m not really gonna hold Joss to that standard for everything he does; you can hardly expect him to create the best TV show in the history of TV 3 times outta 3. Considering the guy who made the second best TV series ever, NYPD Blue, also made Cop Rock, I think that’s reasonable.

Firefly might have greatened up after 7 years, but we’ll never know.

My favorite movie with a teenage heroine is Labyrinth. It’s a fantasy of course, but it’s a heck of a lot of fun and Bowie actually isn’t bad in it either.

I recommend Coming Soon. Ok, so it’s R rated, but it’s on the American Pie end of the scale rather than 9 1/2 Weeks. It is also the movie which fits most closely with my high school experience (judge that as you please).

Failing that…Empire Records was my favourite fim when I was in my teens, well, that and A Clockwork Orange

Gorgonzola- I love Whedon and don’t put down Wonderfalls, I love that show. Never seen and have no interest in seeing Girl, Interrupted though.

Not Another Teen Movie. A teen movie in the sense it is a take-off of all other movies. I’m not sure if it quite fits the category. It is a comedy, but it is very much a teen movie, and does have some perky cheerleaders.
“But isn’t she the one with glasses, paint covered overalls and a ponytail? I can’t go to the prom with her!”

13 Going on 30 is a pretty solid flick that is largely tolerable due to its ability to appeal to a broad range of viewers.

Raising Helen manages to be cute and moving without being irritating.

Hey Selkie, what age range, specifically, did you have in mind? Because while I agree that Chasing Liberty is a great choice for 16+ I would not necessarily recommend it for 13-15 simply because experience has shown that these girls received it with little enthusiasm.

This is probably going to sound much worse than it actually is (I promise, nothing squicky is involved), but it’s for older adults who enjoy watching unironic movies about perky teens, rather than for actual teens.

The characters in Teenage Enema Nurses in Bondage are pretty perky . . .

It probably isn’t out on DVD just yet, but Keira Knightly was perky as all get out as Lizzy Bennet in the recent Pride and Prejudice.

Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion. The DVD cover sez it all…

Once again, I am reminded of why my post count here averages out to 0.08 posts per day. And so it shall continue.

How about the old Andy Rooney-Judy Garland pictures?

You best be smilin’ when you say that.

I saw Meet the Feebles years ago and I still refuse to believe that came from Peter Jackson. Nope, it wasn’t him. Could not possibly be him. No way.

::sticks fingers in ears::
Lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalicanthearyoulalalalalalala…

Oh, and if you’re going to one of mention Peter Jackson’s films (not that you have…) in this thread, it would be Heavenly Creatures. But, I don’t think that’s the fru-fru college chick film the op wants.

:smack:

Mickey Rooney.

Playing Andy Hardy.

But Judy/Polly sure was a perky teenage girl!

My Hero.

My sense of humor sometimes involves causing mental anguish.

No, I don’t think it is. The OP asked for movies about perky girls, not movies that perky girls like to watch. Pretty Woman does not fall into that category either.

Meanwhile, I would recommend any of the Gidget movies.

Pumpkin. Christina Ricci plays a blond college coed (President of her soriority) who falls in love with a kid from her Special Olympics charity project.

Judge Hardy’s Children (1938), Love Finds Andy Hardy (1938), Andy Hardy Gets Spring Fever (1939), Strike Up the Band (1940), Here Come the Co-Eds (1945), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), A Kiss for Corliss (1949), Belles on Their Toes (1952), Gidget (1959).

Girl Crazy (1943), The Reluctant Debutante (1958), 13 Frightened Girls (1963), The World of Henry Orient (1964), I Saw What You Did (1965).
