Recommend some good real country music

Junior Brown.
See him live.
Blows away any rock n roll guitar god you’ll ever see.
And that bass voice!

I know this is a country thread but, re: Jr Brown you have to hear ‘Stupid Blues’. Man…

Ok, I know you’re looking for current stuff, but Johnny Cash is still recording and everything that man touches is magic. There’s also Marty Robbins and his classic “Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs”.

For “newer” artists, give Lyle Lovett a try…he flipflops between country and big band swing, but man, it’s fun.

Jimmie Dale Gilmore, with or without the Flatlanders (Ely and Hancock), but especially his earlier stuff.

Ditto Junior Brown and BR549 – I love their version of Crazy Arms.

Hugh Prestwood…he’s more of a writer than a performer, but a real damn fine one. He’s had a good deal of commercial success from others covering his tunes, and his own releases are somewhat hard to find, but well worth it if you do.

Try Pat Green for some ‘Alternative Country’ that is so popular down here in Texas.

I must recommend Don Walser, the “Pavarotti of the Plains.”

Also check out Wayne Hancock.

Here’s my recommendations for “good” country music:

STEVE EARLE!!!

Ooh, you’re so clever.

My husband does not tolerate country music very well, but he does enjoy Randy Travis. Randy Travis and George Strait are the top of my list!
