> I’ve been meaning to check out **Battlestar Galactica** for awhile now. Does it come anywhere close to the pure genius of **Firefly**?

Oops - meant to comment on this as well. **Firefly** and **BSG** are a little apples in oranges other than being well-written sf. BSG is a lot more of an attempt at gritty drama, with very little in the way of the trademark Whedonesque banter, quirky humour ( excluding the occasional throwawy comment by loony Baltar ), or wild piratical adventure. The principal actors project gravitas more than cleverness.

Also the universe is much more military prosaic and seemingly closer to ours ( the Greek paganism notwithstanding ) and…ummm…less colorful ( in the sense of actual colors as well as cultural soup 🙂 ).

If you have the Sci Fi Channel, you should check out the new series of **Doctor Who,** which is getting its first US showing in March. If not, the DVD boxed set will be on sale from the fourth of July. It’s less dark, on the whole, than Buffy, but with a similar sense of fantasy adventure and quirky character humour.
