Okay, I’m getting really serious about learning Spanish. Something that should help is to get some spanish language movies to watch and listen to the dialoge.

I saw both “Amores Perros” and “Y tu Mama Tambien” in theaters and they’re both already on the list. I never saw “Abre Los Ojos,” but everyone says it’s good, so that’s on the list. There was another that I thought of this morning but it’s already slipped my mind. ☹

So, any other recommendations? I’m in the US, so anything that’s not available here or in the right format is no good.

I’m also a heterosexual male, so having some sexy latinas in it will help keep my motivated…

[Habla con Ella](http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0287467/). Gorgeous pictures, an odd storyline, beautiful music. And the ladies are easy on the eyes, too. 🙂

You might try [Lucía y el sexo](http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0254455), which I’ve heard is true to it’s title and a nice story as well.

That should be Habl **e** con ella, but of course you knew that, learning Spanish and all.

Luis Bunuel is one of film’s greatest directors and many of his films are in Spanish (others are in French). I’d suggest **El** (fascination story of sexual obsession) and **Simón del desierto**.

**El Ángel exterminador** (The Exterminating Angel) and **Viridiana** are also supposed to be quite good, but I haven’t been lucky enough to see them.

If you want a great, sexy Spanish language comedy, there’s alwas [Belle Epoque](http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0103791/)

La Ley De Herodes (Herod’s Law). A comedy that perfectly potrays mexican politics.

Just about everýthing from almodovar, especially his early stuff.
A lot of interesting stuff from Mexico, tambien: Amores Perros and Y tu mama, tambien.
How about ‘Abre los ojos’ which was remade as Vanilla Sky?
That should keep you busy for a while.
(The hamsters seem to be on their coffee break, and I don’t have the energy to code the links to IMDb manually.)

**Mujeres al Borde de un Ataque de Nervios** is one of my favorite movies. Also by Almodovar.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

A few people mentioned movies by Almodovar. I’ve generally avoided his movies as they seem like “chick flicks” to me. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Maybe tell me which is the least “chick-flicky” and I’ll check it out.

The other movie I had been thinking of but forgot is “Men with Guns.” Not Sayles’ best, but still better than a lot of movies out there.

Can anyone give me a positive or negative review on any of these:
[Santitos](http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0126651/)
[Por si no te vuelvo a ver](http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0158855/)
[El Callejon de los Milagros](http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0112619/)

The last one suppposedly won some awards. And has Salma Hayek in it…

Quite possibly the strangest movie I’ve ever seen: [Un Señor muy viejo con unas alas enormes](http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0096077/combined) (A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings). It’s bad but watchable, if only to see what the hell is going to happen next.

I found **Santitos** to be tedious as a movie, the book not so much.

For a Big Chill-type comedy you might like **Solo Con Tu Pareja** (Love in the Time of Hysteria). For a twisted suspense film see **Profundo Carmesi** (Deep Crimson). For a lesson in albures see **O.K. Mister Pancho** or any Alfonso Zayas movie.

And see any movies you can with Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete or Santo.

I thought this was the best movie of last year, but be warned it’s _very_ sexually explicit — not _quite_ porn, but just up to the line — so you don’t want to watch it with your mother. It’s a wonderful, wonderful movie, though.

I cast a second vote for this one. [_Abre los ojos_](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0125659/) is a **MUCH** better movie than _Vanilla Sky_.

There. I linked it for you, **Gaspode**. 🙂

I’ll second, or is that third, stuff by Pedro Almodovar. **Women on the Verge of A Nervous Breakdown** I liked especially.

Also **El Callejón de los milagros, aka Midaq Alley** was good. Stars Salma hayek.
