A buddy of mine is getting married in September, and he’s asked me to help him out with the music. I’m looking for a few hours worth of fun / happy songs. We lean toward rock, but there’s no cast-in-stone genre requirements. We were all teens in the 90s, so that was the music of our youth. I just want to avoid anything angsty. Thanks as always!

I’ll be watching the replies as I’m responsible for a 7/7/07 one myself. NPR had a fella talking about just such a thing the other day, but I only managed to catch a brief bit. His requirements were low key and positive message and suggested, for one, Neil Young’s _Harvest Moon_. Did anyone catch that show and additional titles? Good luck , **EJ**.

A couple of my favorite wedding songs: “When I’m Sixty-Four” and “It’s the End of the World As We Know It” (because it is, but in a _good_ way). Both are popular and happy.

I don’t know what kind of crowd will be at the reception, but “Baby Got Back” got folks out on the dance floor like nothing I’ve ever seen at one of my cousin’s weddings. (You may want to play it after the grandmas have left for the evening.)

My wife and I burned four CD’s for the reception at our recent wedding. It was a big hit 🙂 Here are a few of the songs, in no particular order:

Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder
What’d I Say - Ray Charles
Voodoo Lady - Ween
Float On - Modest Mouse
Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes
Superstition - Stevie Wonder
West Texas Teardrops - Old 97’s
Blitzkreig Bop - The Ramones
Rock This Town - Stray Cats
Down - 311
Don’t Slander Me - 13th Floor Elevators
Guitars and Cadillacs - Dwight Yoakum
Just a Kid (Everybody Has to Do Something They Don’t Want to Do) - Wilco
Boom Boom - John Lee Hooker
Rocky - Butthole Surfers
Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder
Sin Wagon - Dixie Chicks
Hey Ya - OutKast
Gangster of Love - Johnny “Guitar” Watson
Fergalicious - Fergie (this was my wife’s)
Pump It - Black Eyed Peas (also my wife’s)
Hey, Hey Mama, Can Your Daddy Come Home? - Dwight Yoakum
100% - Sonic Youth
Debaser - The Pixies
Starry Eyes - Roky Erikson
You’re Gonna Miss Me - 13th Floor Elevators

There were more, but I can’t remember them all right this second. Play the more rockin’ stuff later, and the really crazy stuff _really_ late.

How 'bout “All of the above”?

I want to include some dancin tunes - I had Outkasts “Hey Ya” on the list becaues it’s fun, I like Baby Got Back. But I guess I’m looking for a good mix that’ll make everyone happy at some point or other during the reception 😉

Well, for happy music, go to some '60’s Mowtown.

You can’t hurry love
The Happening
Be My Little Baby

Let’s Get it On
My First My Last My Everything
Can’t Get Enough of Your Love
I love the song Mr. Blue Sky. Not a dance tune but very happy.

Sweet Caroline
You’re just too good to be true - Frankie Vallie

Who is’nt instantly happy hearing ‘Ooga Ooga Oogachaka!’

Ob La Di Ob La Da

Good Vibrations

Here Comes the Sun

Danke Schoen followed by Twist and Shout

and of course you have to play Shout! Isley Brothers

Try these Billie Holiday numbers

The Very Thought of You
Body and Soul
Now or Never
L.O.V.E. Nat King Cole
Ok none of these are '90s but they are timeless.
