Actually Contact is also one of my favourite sci-fi movies, and I agree, I don’t understand why it arouses so much strong feeling about the ending.
The storyisn’t Japanese at all.
Penelope is a cute fantasy-romance movie starring Christina Ricci and James McAvoy.
Starman with Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen is one of my all-time favorites.
Added Penelope to the list! Starman I’ve seen—and btw, love the 80s-synth theme music.
Here’s what else I’ve found:
Sappy–
- The Kid–worth re-seeing
- Forever Young; worth re-seeing
- Phenomenon
- Midnight in Paris
- About Time (someone also mentioned above)
- Stranger than Fiction
