I absolutely LOVED \* The Night’s Dawn \* Saga by Peter F. Hamilton as well as some of the other series written by Hamilton. Any of the series written by Joe Haldeman I read and loved but I’m having a hard time finding any new authors with great books like these two.

I tried reading Isaac Asmov but I didn’t really enjoy it.

I enjoyed the Otherland tetralogy by Tad Williams (City of Golden Shadow/River of Blue Fire/Mountain of Black Glass/Sea of Silver Light). It’s set in a well-imagined and credible near-future world _and_ in an enormously intricate virtual-reality world that part of the protagonists are trapped in.

My favorite SF books are the Liaden Universe novels by Sharon Lee and Steven Miller. Who can’t love a book with giant alien turtles?
