Recreating MTV

I think it did. “Once in a Lifetime” is off their “Remain in Light” album and that came out in 1980 which is a year before MTV debuted.

I remember thinking it was the weirdest thing – like a short movie about a song! It was paired with a video by some strange Japanese band with bendy guitars.

. . . . whiiich was this. Gads, I just think of something, google it, go on Youtube and it’s there. Living in the future’s a freakout some times, you know?

What about "Feet Don’t Fail Me Now?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyeC9mSWV-w

That video is one of my earliest memories of MTV.

And I used to have a huge crush on Martha Quinn and kept a picture of her in my wallet when I was a sophomore in high school (1982-83). I was taken aback when I found out she turns 50 this year…

THANK YOU, from one whose parents wouldn’t fork over the dough to get MTV. Remember the awesome opening graphics with all the neon? Sweet!

That is the most 80s dorkiest thing I’ve ever heard.

I kept a picture of Princess Diana. :o

When did the Friday Night Video Fights or MTV’s Top 20 Video Countdown shows begin airing? From around 1983 to 1988, I watched both of these shows religiously. I even wrote down in a notebook the new Top 20 chart each Friday evening and shared it with my school mates next Monday morning. I think I still have that notebook somewhere.

Really? That is, without a doubt, the worst song he ever wrote. And, ironically the most popular.

Come on Eileen by Dexy’s Midnight Runner and then “99 Luft Balloons”.

In the Chicago market, I remember one of the end-of-the-UHF-dial channels (60? 66?) used to show music videos all day long. I’m not sure what their story was but it’s where I saw all my videos since we didn’t cable until much later. This had to be in the early 80’s since I remember watching the “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” video on there all the time.

Edit: Apparently I remember a pretty small window of time in the life of Channel 66. Per Wiki:

Remember watching MTV way back when on my Dad’s small Sony Triniton and it seemed like Berlin’s Sex (I’m A) played constantly…
