_ **BOOM!!! BOOM!!!** _ The double blast of a couple of F-14 accelerating through the sound barrier 60 feet off the deck, pulling up and rocketing through the low ceiling has got every guy aboard ship today excited. For Veterans’ Day weekend, we’re doing the “family cruise” today off the coast of Virginia aboard the mighty IKE and I brought my seven-year-old out with me. We’re doing the “air show” thing too, dropping ordnance, firing guns, deploying SEALs and a whole bunch of other exciting guy things. “Oh, you think that’s neat, Skirm? Well, Daddy does this every day,” I respond nonchalantly to his awed observances. I feel like a million bucks! God, why is it so fuckin’ great to impress the shit out of your kid? ---

Chief, there’s no feeling like it! I took my nephew to “Arctic Thunder” the airshow with the Blue Angels (he wants to be a pilot) and _did_ we ever have the time of our lives! MY GOD! We live very near many bases and posts (Alaska) and I am really proud of our military, and it’s always neat to see new recruits (who grew up somewhere flat) when they get to Alaska. They love it here & I’m glad they’re here! The airforce base really put out the welcome mat here in Anchorage for the public for that show and it was a wonderful feeling to wander among all that cool stuff and to see the demo’s they put on for us. I took my son to an air show in St. Paul when the Confederate Air Force was on display. Very, very groovy. And, I don’t know why it feels so good to impress your son, but I do know it don’t get no better’n that. ---
