# Red Coke

A friend of mine once left a half-drunk bottle of Coke in his car in summer. The liquid turned into a nice magenta colour. I decided to do the same thing, and got the same result.  
Why does it do this? Does food colouring fade? It gets paler the longer you leave it, too.
