# Redhat Linux 8.0, any good?

I was thinking of buying the personal edition of Redhat Linux 8.0 today. It seems to have a few new features. I’ve already got v.7.0. Is it worth upgrading in your opinions?

Before you spend money and purchase it, maybe you should download the disk images and give it a whirl for free. Red Hat allows this, you just don’t get tech support.
I tried it and liked it, but I don’t use it on a regular basis and can’t really judge it fairly.

If you use KDE, go for it! The new KDE 3.0 is a blast!
[sub]Supposedly gnome has changed too, I don’t use it, so I wouldn’t know[/sub]
Otherwise it’s not that big a deal. From what I’ve understood, the difference between 7.1 -\> 7.2 was bigger. The main difference with 8.0 is that they now include all the goodies, that you had to download separately earlier.
And, don’t re-post in IMHO, just tell a mod, and they’ll move the post for you!

I’m a complete linux n00b, and I had no trouble with it at all. In fact, I’m now using it as my primary OS. I’ve run into a bit of frustration trying to compile a few apps, because appartently RH sticks a few libraries in non-standard directories, but other than that, it’s been pretty smooth sailing.
