Hillbillies. Rednecks live in trailer parks, hillbillies live in the hills…and make you squeel like a pig. (And I am allowed to say this, being from the self proclaimed “Redneck Capital of California”) ---

Unfortunately, I would have to go with rednecks on that one. But if we can include a third group, mountain men would kick their collective behinds. Of just the two though, I would just think that there would be more inbreeding and abuse with the hillbillies. I would hope to be nowhere within 100 miles should such a battle take place though. ---

Rednecks, due to sheer numbers. Hillbillies are limited to a regional level, but rednecks are everywhere. ---

It would seem that rednecks would be able to muster much more people. There are many more across the country who identify as rednecks (not in the typical ethnic slur sense that many Dopers use the term as) than there are hill folks. ---

I think of Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel as the archetypal hillbilly. I think of Bull Connor as the archetypal redneck. So rednecks take it. ---

Rednecks may be able to outsmart a hillbilly, because they have better access to public schools. But rednecks are loud and obnoxious, whereas hillbillies are known to be stealthy and quiet, from generations of keeping the location of their stills a secret. Then there’s the mental telepathy from all the inbreeding. A bunch of them could be having a conversation with eachother, right in front of you, and you wouldn’t even know it. ---

The hillbillies would win because they would outlast the rednecks. They would hate the rednecks as long as they live, and so would their kin, for the rest of eternity. Rednecks would be too distracted by NASCAR 😉 ---

I think hillbillies would win in the long run. Rednecks have the numbers and both are well-matched for meanness, just in different ways. Which group is smarter is debatable. However, the hillbillies could, well, take to the hills. Hillbillies are terrible good at generations-long fueds after all. Guerilla tactics would take care of any rednecks crystal meth didn’t.
