Are there any regulations as to what can be included, or what should not be included, in someone’s signature? Also, do you see your signature on your own posts? I thought I created one, but it doesn’t show up when I see my own threads, but perhaps this is normal? And lastly, I notice some boards allow small graphics (75 X 75 pixels) to be attached to usernames. Would this use too much bandwidth, or clog up the servers here? Not that I particularly want to see photos of people, or their kittens, or whatever, but just wondering if the idea has ever been considered here. ---

[Rules concerning signatures](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=7697069&postcount=14). Presumably, in addition to these, the content of the signature are also subject to the restrictions governing any other post, i.e., not insulting to other members, containing racial slurs, spam and other no-no’s. The general consensus seems to be that avatars are not wanted here, irrespective of bandwith issues. ---

Way back when we allowed images in posts, we had a lot of problems with people posting copyrighted images without permission. Between that and the bandwidth thing, we had to disallow image posting for members. IF we ever went to avatars, I imagine we’d have to have our own set of avatars to choose from. However, I don’t think that we’re gonna allow avatars any time soon. I rather like them, if they’re small and not obnoxious, but I’m in the minority here.
