Your question is oddly worded, but I’ll give it a shot. "Fly Like an Eagle, Take the Money and Run, Joker, Abracadabra… Steve Miller is hardly obscure! “Take the Money and Run” C’mon, are you serious?

How about Henry Mancini?  
the guy had a billion hits in some form or another but now the only thing people know from him (And Everyone knows them) are the Pink Panther theme and Peter Gunn theme (and with Peter Gunn you usually have to do the trumpet part or play it for them.
