Yeah we are 10/8 just next to Buffalo Bayou so just been clipped by the worst of them this last month , but I’d say 3 outages due to storms and trees in power lines in last couple of months , then our yeti 1500 we use to keep the fridge freezer going went on the fritz at 50% , but that’s a mini rant topic .

Nature wrath on the energy corridor maybe. Not sure I can blame this on Abbot, but just a hearty fuck that guy and the AG because it is never not a good time to say that.

**The hail in Texas was so big Tuesday that it required a new description**

> A string of rotating thunderstorms developed across west Texas on Tuesday, dropping record-setting hail and prompting a novel warning message from the National Weather Service. Hail the size of DVDs bombarded communities to the northwest of Lubbock, shattering windshields, damaging structures and even leaving small craters in fields and farmland.
>
> In an unusual turn of events, **the biggest hail report, at nearly five inches in diameter,** came from … me. I happened to be storm chasing and was stationed in the town of Pettit, Tex., about 40 miles northwest of Lubbock, where I encountered hail larger than grapefruits

[https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/other/the-hail-in-texas-was-so-big-tuesday-that-it-required-a-new-description/ar-BB1nhDkY?ocid=BingNewsSerp](https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/other/the-hail-in-texas-was-so-big-tuesday-that-it-required-a-new-description/ar-BB1nhDkY?ocid=BingNewsSerp)

Well, I am willing for Texas to keep its hail crown…

Well, since the Fuck Texas thread has been bumped, thought I’d share this:

> **[Texas’ immigration dilemma - San Antonio Express, 5/29/2024](http://digital.olivesoftware.com/olive/odn/sanantonioexpressnews/shared/ShowArticle.aspx?doc=SAEN%2F2024%2F05%2F29&entity=Ar01001&sk=6E74C4C4&mode=text)**
>
> San Antonio Express - 5/29/2024

> WASHINGTON — From citrus farms in South Texas to tech offices in Austin and construction sites in San Antonio, much of the Texas economy runs on immigrant labor.
>
> Immigrants make up 11% of the overall Texas’ population, more than any state except California, according to estimates by the nonprofits Migration Policy Center and the American Immigration Council. And with the Texas economy booming and the unemployment rate near historic lows, businesses across the spectrum are eager to expand foreign worker programs to get many more immigrants to come to the Lone Star State.
>
> “We need labor,” said Glenn Hamer, president of the Texas Business Association, the state’s largest business lobbyist. “We have more jobs open than people to fill them. Every unemployed person could get a job, and we’d still have hundreds of thousands of jobs open. The best and brightest people in the world want to come here and contribute, and we need them.”
> …
>
> Now, Republicans across the board are less willing to engage on any legislation that might expand immigrant worker programs, lest they be challenged by a staunchly anti-immigrant candidate in a primary, said Mark Jones, a political science professor at Rice University.
>
> “In the past, worker visas were not intertwined with the larger debate about immigration. You could be pro agriculture visas without being seen as soft on border security,” he said. “It’s become a punitive issue for Republicans and made it hard to pass legislation, which in the past had a lot of bipartisan agreement.”
> …

One is forced to comment, “Well, duh!” 🤦🏽‍♀️

Who is going to pick those vegetables, clean those homes/offices, mow those lawns, etc.? Citizens aren’t interested.

It’s just so stoopid. We’re perhaps history’s greatest beneficiaries of imported talent and conservatives want to shut the doors because they overheard a couple speaking Spanish in a waiting room.

It’s even stoopider when one considers demographic trends but there are other threads for discussing those.

Better yet, they’re generally conservative.

Unfortunately, the Republicans have decided reactionary politics and racism are more important than things like principles and coherent planks (seriously, I wonder if they’ll just copy and paste it again from 2016 like they did literally did in 2020).

They already get a lot of immigrant votes as it is and could lock up a huge demographic simply by not being bigoted asswipes.

Where would they go? To the Democrats? Nah.

Make their own party with hookers and blackjack? They’re too lazy for that, too.

This should probably go in conservatives are evil thread but here is good too. They are very literally causing serious harm to some women.

> **[Texas Supreme Court rules against women who alleged state abortion ban put...](https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/31/politics/texas-supreme-court-abortion-ban/index.html)**

> The state’s highest court, which is made up entirely of Republicans, reversed a lower court’s order that broadened the exception to circumstances in which a pregnancy is “unsafe” for the pregnant person or when there is a fetal condition making it unlikely the fetus will survive.
>
> “Because the trial court’s order opens the door to permit abortion to address any pregnancy risk, it is not a faithful interpretation of the law,” the state Supreme Court said.

You know, with all the natural disasters hitting Texas why has no one mentioned the possibility that God might be angry at them? They certainly trot that out whenever something bad happens to someone they don’t like. Well, seems to me a lot of smiting it going on in Texas. Hmm.

Okay, I admit it, it’s me. I did it as an experiment. If 40 million liberals in California cause earthquakes and wildfires, what does one liberal in Texas lead to. Turns out it’s tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires and Ted Cruz. I think someone is going to have to invent a new kind of math to figure this out.

There really is no end to the harm they want to inflict. It absolutely amazes me that any woman in Texas is ok with this. I get many women may oppose abortion but Texas (and others) are showing a non-stop willingness to control and punish women and, sooner or later, it will get to the women who thought all this didn’t really affect them. A “Leopards Ate My Face” thing.

As the article notes, even though these are UT-Austin professors and everything relevant to the case transpired in Austin, they filed suit 500 miles away in Amarillo. Specifically because the case would be heard by Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, the favorite judge of venue-shopping conservatives due to his insanely right-wing beliefs and utter disregard for judicial precedent to serve his own ideological leanings.

In addition to abortion, the article also notes that the two professors are clearly not fans of homosexual or transgender people. They want to be able to ban transgender women TAs from wearing skirts.

I get the feeling that, barring either of them having tenure, neither of those professors is going to be employed by UT for much longer. I have to imagine that, come this fall, word is going to spread around campus to avoid these two pricks.

What happens to tenured professors who don’t have anyone sign up for their classes? Do they get to hang around the campus anyway, paid but not working like some sort of academic drone?
