Yeah, this sort of thing isn’t uncommon. I know there are movements advocating for Eastern Oregon to join Idaho, and for Chicago to be divorced from the rest of Illinois. (I’d be fine with that last one, once we abolish the Electoral College) ---

That’s what I meant - what requires the approval of both states legislatures and Congress - that rule applies to both creation of a new state, and transferring territory between 2 existing states. So the NM counties involved can’t just hold a local vote and claim that’s sufficient authority. ---

I’ve heard of northern Colorado wishing they were Wyoming, since they’re both physically closer and politically more aligned with Cheyenne than Denver. (Or seceding and forming a different state.) ---

IMO the significant difference between trump and his successor-in-fascism is that the successor is unlikely to be a fully paid-up Russian stooge. He (of _course_ it’s a he) will still be a full-on Fascist. ---

Yeah, I hear that a lot. When I have aches and pain I still take pain reliever, along with medicine that addresses the underlying problem. Trump is a major pain in our collective asses, and getting rid of him would alleviate a shitload of pain. ---

The square miles are not the issue. It’s the beliefs and attitudes of the people who live on those square miles. Not every single person, no. You’re one obvious counterexample. But if we had a handy MAGA-o-meter we could stick into each state about like the meat thermometer that we stick into a roasting turkey’s breast to check doneness, I think TX would definitely read out as well-done / overcooked. ---
