Remakes- good or not so good?

Apparently the 1967 version was itself a remake of an episode in a 1964 series ‘Sykes and a…’ (the episode being Sykes and a Plank)

The Glass Key (1942) - Adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s novel with Brian Donlevy, Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake and (stealing the show) William Bendix is significantly better than the dully directed, flatly lit 1935 version with George Raft.

Sleeping Car to Trieste (1948) updates and improves on Rome Express (1930) while adding a kick-ass climax.

The Blob (1988) lacks the iconic cheesiness of the 1958 version with Steve McQueen, but is more competently made, does not rely on dimwitted teens and has way better VFX.
