My take on the issue, flawed though it may be, is that a certain subset of the same-sex-attracted decided to claim a forgotten era in pop culture for their own because the rest of us, apparently, didn’t want any part of it. ICBW, YMMV, and all standard disclaimers apply, of course. ---

Maybe they’re trying to tell us what the world has come to – that almost the only people who are fun, clever, or spread real joy in this work-and-consume world are those who have sworn off any thought of heterosexuality, a way of life that, one might argue, has been so totally co-opted by the market economy that there is no longer any way to find a fulfilling and autonomous life with anyone not a member of your own gender. N.B. This is just a kind of worst-case scenario musing. I sure as hell hope I’m wrong, or I, too, am going to have to learn to liek teh cawk. ---
