I definitely made myself some suicides when I was a kid. I “perfected” it down to avoiding diet sodas (aspartame tastes like metal) and always finishing with Dr Pepper if available. I saw someone uothread call them “graveyards.” That’s what my brothers and I called a virgin mixed drink we created for a party we never ended up throwing. It was Coke mixed with milk, with a popsicle stick made into a headstone. It was absolutely disgusting. That recent “Pilk” fad from Pepsi was really a head-scratcher for me. ---

i have lived under a rock. the only beverage i recognized in this thread was the garbage can and arnold palmer. i had my own version of the arnold palmer using a splash of orange juice instead of lemonade, and if i am at a fountain beverage dispenser, i will add a splash of something to the diet cola. at ikea i will add a splash of ligon berry, at nozzle fountains a splash of fruit punch or lemonade. they have the really wild ones at the wawa, then i get a bit crazy, diet dr pepper with vanilla, cherry, and sometimes a splash of strawberry. ---

Suicide drinks? Never! Engaging in such frivolous nonsense would be an affront to my sophisticated palate and discriminating taste. Oh, I may on rare occasion place a droplet or two of freshly-squeezed lemon juice into my Earl Grey teacup, but I feel naughty doing so. ---

A few year ago there were a bunch of drink dispensers offering maybe 10 different flavors. I think one machine was called Coke Freestyle. Depending on the machine you could mix any combination of the flavors that included the common types of sodas and a variety of fruit flavors. I would rarely select any kind of soda except Pepsi, or Coke in a pinch. It’s nothing that would be called a ‘suicide drink’ but floats with and kind of ice cream or soda have been around longer than anyone posting here while still alive. ---

I was never a huge fan of the suicides as a kid; as often as not, they were worse than just one single flavor by itself. My children however, are proud upholders of the tradition. And technology has advanced as well- they’re particularly fond of the Coke Freestyle soda fountains that let you choose from a whole host of basic flavors (like 16 or so), along with a bunch of modifier syrups for each. So for example, you can get Coke, root beer, cream soda, Sprite, ginger ale, Mello Yello, Mr. Pibb, etc… and each of those with vanilla syrup, lime syrup, etc… (within reason; not every syrup is available with every soda). So they can _really_ get down on the funky suicide combinations. ---

tastee freez advertised 50 shake and slush flavors. I remember eating inside. I could see the labeled dispenser bottles on a double-tiered carousel. Very strange names like grasshopper. Somebody got imaginative dreaming up those flavors. You could get some strange slushes by randomly mixing the flavors. I miss tastee freez. They were a special part of my childhood.
