I stopped on the way home from work to pick up some dinner and locked my keys in the car. Yay!

Fortunately (I guess), it was only a mile from my apartment. So I hiked the remaining mile home, got the management office to let me in (since my apartment keys were on the ring with the car keys), found my sets of spare keys, then hiked the mile back to the shopping plaza to get my dinner and retrieve my car. I suppose I should feel lucky that it only cost me an extra hour, rather than the 2+ it might have taken if I’d waited for AAA, but man, this afternoon sucked. And I’ve got nobody to blame but myself.

😕

In what way does George Michael on the sound system singing “Last Christmas” _not_ qualify as an emergency?

Sorry you had a bad day.

I’ve locked myself out so many times, DH talked me into keeping spares of the most essential keys in my wallet.

What… how… seriously, people? 😕 Who does this make sense to, and can I have some of what they’re smoking?

On to my rant:
My depression came roaring back on Friday, and a day I should have spent in preparation for the Princess’ 11th birthday party\* was instead spent mostly in bed, crying, worrying that the party would go spectacularly wrong, and reading sad tragic fanfiction. Somehow I got it together enough to go buy party supplies. The cake, however, was another story. Because of my procrastination, I waited till the last minute to go buy the birthday cake. Have you ever gone shopping for a 1/4-sheet birthday cake on Black Friday? I wouldn’t recommend it. The bakery where my sister got her birthday cake was open, but the cake baker was gone for the weekend. The wonderful Cuban bakery where I bought a smaller cake on her actual birthday a few days ago was closed, since it’s family-owned and the entire family was taking Thursday and Friday off. We ended up getting a chocolate cake at Ralphs, which she actually liked because it was dry compared to most cakes. My kid _would_ be the one kid who likes dry cake.

Anyway, the party came out pretty good, considering only four kids (three of whom were related) showed up of the ten or so she invited. She was a bit disappointed by the turnout. I told her next year I’m taking her to Disneyland instead of having a party, and she agreed. As for my depression, I finally went to the doctor today, and he agreed to put me back on Prozac. Let’s see how that goes.

\*two more years till she can have her own SDMB account!

Got any advice on this? My cat won’t let me come near him with the nail clipper. He is way overdue. My old vet used to do it, but my new vet didn’t.

Don’t do it! It will only make you feel worse. I’ve decided to stop arguing with people on the internet. Discussions are okay, but not arguments. If someone says something that immediately pisses me off, it’s a good sign that I should not engage with that person. So far this has greatly reduced my daily stress.

Depression fucking blows and I’m sorry to hear you are having a hard time with it. Try to remember it will go away eventually. (And then return. And then go away. And then return…) But for now, focus on the going away part.

Who do I have to commit acts of extreme violence against to get a pair of women’s jeans that aren’t stretchy or thin? I want good denim, the kind you can wear to a worksite. Instead, all the jeans I find in the women’s department are so thin I know they’ll tear up in under a year. Already I’ve found a place with some threads of doubtful strength in the pair I bought yesterday. And that was after searching two stores to find a pair of traditional \*blue \*jeans. It seems that “ugly shade of hideous” is all the rage this year.

I’m going to have to go jeans shopping in the men’s department again, aren’t I?

Good advice-- thank you from many of us.

When the kids were small and doing something weird/destructive/annoying, we’d roll our eyes and mutter “It’s just a phase…just a phase…” Well, I guess everything’s just a phase.

Yep. On the bright side, the pockets of your jeans will be able to hold more than a penny. 🙂

**Olives** ,

Ideally you need to train the kitty to accept the claw clipping from kittenhood. We did it very gently when they were babies. My husband and I also make claw clipping cats a two person job. One holds and feeds kitty treats while the other does a very quick but careful claw clip. They accept it but mew loudly during the process.

Try enticing him with a really favorite food if possible.

Not so fast there. I have not heard of this. Are you saying that there are states that are trying to ban atheists from holding office, or are there citizens who want their states to ban atheists from holding office, or what?

\<mutters\> Must write letters to state representatives…

There are 7 or 8 states which require a belief in a Supreme Being, or which say that if someone denies that there’s a Supreme Being, that person cannot hold office.

I think the work clothes store is probably the place to try. [Mark’s Work Wearhouse](http://www.marks.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchDisplay?resultCatEntryType=&pageView=image&catalogId=10051&showResultsPage=true&top_category=17003&parent_category_rn=17003&beginIndex=0&langId=-1&categoryId=23502&storeId=10151&sType=SimpleSearch) has a small ladies section, but they do have what appears to be a normal pair of jeans available.

I’m trying to find a nice pair of dress shoes to go with my Christmas party dress - I have gone to five malls now with no luck. I find a pair I like - they don’t have them in my size. I try on a pair - they don’t fit. They fit my larger foot, but not my smaller foot (or vice versa). I partially blame extremely high and extremely flat shoes for my problems, since they are really not good for anything except causing foot pain. I’m going to try another mall this week - wish me luck!

Word.

Not that I’m surprised. This country (the USA) has been screwy about religion pretty much since its inception. People joke about how the religious right is turning into the christian version of the Taliban, but there’s too much truth in that for my comfort.
