Morning, Trash. Evening, Tazzies. Wow, a year since we lost Wally. I remember sitting at my desk in work, staring blankly at my screen, in sheer disbelief at myself that I could be so affected by the death of someone I had never met. After that, I simply could not use the phrase “Its only a messageboard” again. My thoughts go out to His Wife and daughter. ---

I got off to a rocky start with **Wally** , but we made up and were well on the way to becoming good friends. How could you not love him…he was witty and intelligent and sensitive and…no one could turn a pithy put down phrase quite like him. He had a gift. I miss you, **Wally** …I got cheated out of the chance to know you better, but your legacy to your loved ones and to this board lives on. My heart goes out to all of you here who loved him…especially the ones who loved him personally, and knew him as more than just an admired from afar friend. I know how much this day hurts. I never knew **Wally** … more’s the pity! I do remember reading threads about his passing during my first few months of lurking… from all I hear, I wish I had known him… he sounded like someone special… :sad: ---

I never knew Wally, but he was the reason that I joined this board. Or, rather, his cybersex thread was. I read it in “Threadspotting” one boring day at work, and signed up for the SDMB, having no idea what a message board was really about. When I read the thread about Wally’s death, I couldn’t help but be surprised at the emotion that I felt. Here I was, sitting at work, doing all that I could to keep from sobbing, all over a person that I had never talked to, let alone met. I envy every one of you Dopers who knew Wally, and the gift that you recieved from him. I wish I could join you in saying “I knew him, and he was wonderful,” but I’m only priveledged to say one half of that. Rest in Peace, Wally. Maybe I’ll get to talk to you someday. -Walt ---

I remember the day well. I came to work and logged on to my computer only to have **Twisty** tell me the news. I was so shocked. I remember crying as I went to the board and opened **Shayna’s** thread. It was mortifying. **Wally** had the best sense of humor. He was always ready with a snappy comeback and always seemed to be having fun. Though he’s gone, his memory will live in our hearts and on this board forever. I’ll raise my beer in honor of **Wally** tonight. I miss you buddy. ---

I’ve been dreading this. Wally’s fall and his untimely death happened right around my birthday last year (my birthday is today). I cried for hours the day after my birthday last year, and I’m crying now. I never had one-on-one contact with Wally, but I’ve read so many of his posts. I feel bad that I didn’t get a Wally sig–he had so many requests, I didn’t want to make more trouble for him. I wish I’d taken the time. I can’t believe it’s been almost a year. Last night, I went back and saved some of the really good threads to my hard drive. They were all Wally threads (not all started by him, but some of his best lines were in there). I don’t have time right now (I’m at work) to look up all those old threads, but when I get home I will, if someone hasn’t by then already. **Shayna** , I was on the phone with you last year when you got the email from Amy. I know that you and Wally had started talking a lot and had developed a close friendship. My heart goes out to you over the next few days, and if you need to talk, I should be around at least tonight if not tomorrow night. **Amy** , I haven’t seen you here since your father’s death, but in case you ever read the posts here, please know that Wally’s extended family has him in our hearts right now. Well, what can I say. Wally was the man. I sure am gonna miss him, though. He was definately a funny, funny guy. His Pit threads were searing. Another thing-- Remember to post your Wally-esque moments, for when they happen, and you don’t know whether to laugh or cry, Wally’s lookin’ down on ya. we miss ya Wally, ya putz ---
