The minority owners want out. Snyder could sell their shares to Disney and they can be the **Washington Wookiees** and wear woolly uniforms. That would actually be kind of awesome. ---

I’ve sent them a beautiful logo, using a Redskin (potato) in a helmet, carrying a football. Wrote the head office a nice note, saying that I’d solved their name problem. So watch for that tomorrow! ---

[The announcement this morning](https://wtop.com/washington-redskins/2020/07/redskins-no-more-washingtons-nfl-franchise-officially-punts-name/) is that they’ve decided the name _ **will** _ change. Change _ **to what** _, is going to be the subject of a later announcement; they did acknowledge that the one this morning went out on Redskins letterhead because that is still the legal corporate name right now. Reports I’ve seen suggest that having had to act, management is now trying to make damn sure that even a placeholder name avoids a “Lady A” situation. ---

And, it’s official. The Washington team will be retiring the Redskins name and logo. They don’t yet have a new name or logo selected, though they appear to be keeping the burgundy and gold colors. Washington Red Tails. Named after the Tuskegee Airmen. Come on! 1. It’s progressive 2. It honors the Tuskegee Airmen, which is awesome 3. Color scheme still works (it’s not the same shade of red but whatever) 4. Cool alternate logo opportunities with P-51 Mustangs 5. It’s a unique name ---

One problem with Red Tails is that it will just lead to mockery, “Washington got its tail spanked red.” There are Washington fans already complaining about that prospect. ---

Bigger problem in my mind is that we already have WAY too much military propaganda shoe horned into our sports, especially the NFL. Let’s not institutionalize it further. ---

I don’t think I’ve ever met someone offended by Fighting Irish mascots. Can’t tell me the Irish haven’t had their share of persecution. My old high school mascot (Highlanders) has changed a little bit from a pissed off leprechaun-looking thing to a shirtless Scottish hunk with a sword and kilt. ---

My somewhat serious suggestion is that they go without a name for a season or more. Not only is it a bit late for this kind of change to happen for this season, they could go without a name as some sort of atonement for the past and honoring of all the underrepresented peoples of the world. Very much doubt they will, but it’s a nice thought. ---

Well, since the Department of the Treasury is located there and pro football is all about the money (don’t kid yourself, it is), the Washington Greenbacks would be colorful, shouldn’t offend anyone (I err of course, _someone_ will be offended) and represents what both the owners and players are really about… IMHO as always. YMMV. ---
