I gotta be careful. Last time I posted to a thread on this subject I recommended “Oat Willie,” and it was like evoking Beelzebub or something. If I had to pick a new name, I’d go with “Kokomo Arnold.” He was a blues slide-guitar player from the 1930s. And ain’t it fun to say? ---

**evilbeth** - I swear, I didn’t sleep for days trying to decide between _Chicken of Bristol_ and _Crunchy Frog_. I used every deductive method of reasoning I could think of to decide between those two choices: I did eeny-meeny-minie-moe, I did one potato two potato, I flipped coins, I’m telling you I tried everything! Then my GF said she liked **Crunchy Frog** better. That ended that. So **agisofia** as you can see, _Chicken of Bristol_ was not rejected, it was a tie broken only by someone who has no idea what either phrase means. I beg of you to choose _Chicken of Bristol_ as your new username, only so **evilbeth** stops sending me all those hateful emails about me not choosing her suggested name. (She can really obsess about things!) Of course, if you’re not a Monty Python fan, you can always choose to be known as **ILuvCrunchyFrog** ---

the chant types are the main ones used in slavic orthodox churches. they are named from the monasteries that originated them. polyelei is one of my favourite parts of matins. it is greek meaning “much oil.” there is a very nifty tradition that goes with the singing of this hymn. back when oil lamps were all that were in the church, in frount of ikons, and the chandeliers, these were all lit during this part of matins, when the polyelei was started they would swing all the lamps so that oil would drip out amoung congregation. i would imagine that was quite a sight. my favourite version of this hymn is rachmaninoff’s. prokov means protection, it is celebrated on oct 14th (oct 1st gregorian) a big feast day in the greek and slavic churches. i had just gotten home from church when i saw your thread. ---
