# Renaming the planet Earth?

Whenever someone wonders about a name for anything, my first thought always is “Roger”. It’s a good name, IMO.
On further contemplation, if the Earth turns out to be a girl, “Debbie” would be a good name for her.

What a disaster if we run into another sentient species and they’ve named _their_ world Ocean, Planet X, War World etc. And you just know they’ll put their giga-lasers at us and insist we be the ones to rename (again).

Not really accurate. There are substantial portions of land as well as the larger portions of water. So I suggest we call this planet Mud.

I bet 100 kwatloos that that is not a real GUID, but rather something you just typed up in the correct format.

It’s 2015, and we’re sorely lacking in Zones. I mean, growing up in the 70s, I would have thought there’d be zones all over the place.
So, my renaming proposal is “The Forbidden Zone”. And instead of Earthlings, we should tell the aliens to call us “Dwellers of the Forbidden Zone”.
And can we designate the rest of the solar system as “The Neutral Zone”? After all, no country on Earth…I mean The Forbidden Zone…has claimed exclusive rights to any other body in the solar system, so “The Neutral Zone” is actually technically correct.

I guess we should go with “Rock”, then.
Or “Mostly rock”. How about “Wet rock”?
Or, for perfect accuracy: “Wet rock, and there’s something weird growing on it, yuck, throw it out”.

**Terra** seems to be the unofficially accepted name. I’m happy enough with it.
