Even if the impeachment got really serious in a white hot hurry, W could pull a Nixon and resign.
Then, uh, who would succeed him for the remaining days? And there’d surely be enough time to bomb Iran
We’re assuming that, forced or willing, he’d go out the door with Cheney in tow (because any plan that put Cheney in the OO even for a week would be unacceptable), so . . . Pelosi.
Okay.
But it plays only in my fondest dreams.
It seems like a total fucking waste of time to me. He’s just fellating his moonbat constituency. Yes, this means YOU much of the SDMB.
I think impeachment will be a tradition for a while now. I can’t wait til 2016 when President Obama gets his articles of impeachment.
I’ve wanted to do that to him for YEARS!
Glad you’re finally on board with the idea.
It’s interesting that I just got an email from Rep. Wexler, supporting Kucinich, and promising to try and get the articles brought up before the Judiciary committee. So, apparently some in the party paid attention. We’ll have to see it it gets any traction this time around…
I’m sure the big-wigs in the House will be looking at Nov. If they think it helps the Dems in Nov, they’ll push it forward. If they think it doesn’t, they won’t. It would be very interesting to hear Obama’s opinion.
The Democrats should stop worrying about who won the last two Presidential elections and spend more time working on winning the next one.
Kinda. The movie won’t be out for another year.
Kucinich deserves a bronze statue twenty feet tall right outside congress for calling a spade a spade. He is acting on his conscience, and that’s to be commended at the highest levels. Certainly not everything he listed is impeachable, but there’s more than enough evidence to hang Bush, Cheney and many others.
There maybe good reasons for the Democrats not to pursue this matter, but I can’t think of a one. Any Republican who helps block impeachment should be branded a traitor, along with the media that ignores what’s obvious and crucial to the Nation.
It’s a sad day in American history, indeed, when such high crimes and misdemeanors are ignored. History should damn the entire decade and all those who have stood silent.
And why the hell aren’t the citizens rioting in the streets?
God help us all.
Oh, don’t worry! That is exactly what Democrats are worrying about more than anything else! Which does not make Kucinich’s Articles of Impeachment counterproductive. Quite the reverse. The rotten damned-of-Og bastards succeeded in cheating in 2000 and (quite astonishingly) even in 2004 through the Dems’ complacency and gentlemanly and unreciprocated fairmindedness, and we can’t let that happen again.
Lest you think that sounds alarmist, do some lurking on Free Republic, with “Obama” as a search keyword, and you’ll find many FReeperscum saying, “Let’s start Swiftboating him [Obama] now!” Without even the slightest hint of irony, shame or repentance.
Just wait until Obama is elected. I guarantee his first mistake will be seen as the coming of the apocalypse.
Unfortunately, we are living in a time when the first mistake of the next POTUS (whoever he might be) might very well be the coming of the apocalypse – and the same is equally true of the next POTUS’ inaction or indecision on anything important. That’s how it is, now. That’s how high the stakes are.
And the Clinton impeachment, how’d that work out? Did the Republicans make huge electoral gains by discrediting a Democratic President?
No doubt on this board the consensus will be that this is different - Clinton was innocent and Bush is evil. But you have to remember there’s a wider world out there. A lot of people are going to see this as nothing but a partisan payback. Or an attempt to influence this year’s election. Or, worst of all, an attack on an American President during wartime.
The only way an impeachment works is if the case is so clear and strong that it’s essentially won before it’s even begun. Despite what people want to believe, this is not the situation here. Bush will beat an impeachment and the Democrats will regret starting this.
It would be peachy with me if it were rare that a Presidential term passed WITHOUT impeachment articles being drawn up. I think impeachment is absurdly under-rated as one of the checks and balances in keeping the government, Dem. or Rep. or Lib. or Green, honest. I think Bush was able to smirk his way past any legal or ethical considerations that might have crossed his mind, knowing that the worst he faced was low approval ratings. (He didn’t know how low they could get, but that’s not so terrible–he’s still smirking all the way to January 20, 2009.) But if he’d had to say “Hmmm, can’t tell THIS whopper here about the WMDs–I could get my ass impeached, and Cheney’s too, and that crazy bitch Pelosi will be running the country–maybe I’ll tone this bit of bullshit down a skosh, and maybe this one, too. Huh–this whopper looks like it could mean impeachment trouble too–shit, if I cut enough of this crap out, I may wind end up ethical and legal and competent. Boy, what a kick in the ass THAT would be…”
:shrugs:
The Usual Response from the Usual Suspects. As mentioned, this kind of foolishness plays well to the fanatical Left. In contrast, whenever Kucinich gets up to speak, I start feeling in my pockets for a penny and looking around for the organ grinder.
Not that it matters all that much - I suspect the American populace will react to this shaved ape chattering and baring his teeth to an empty chamber the same way they did to his Presidential campaign - mildly entertaining political theater, but nothing to take seriously. Let him gibber and fling his feces around on C-SPAN, and hope nobody asks the obvious question -
“With all the problems facing the country, this is all you can think of to do, you cretin?”

O, where were you with this insight during the mid-90s, when the issue was raised once or twice that the impeachment procedings (over a sitting President’s personal dishonesty that didn’t affect national policy an iota) were out of proportion? The sitting Cretin-in-Chief is far more than merely dishonest–his lies have cost thousands of American soldiers their lives, and trashed our reputation globally (and our economy) for years to come. Wouldn’t it be virtuous to show the world, not just tell them, how strongly we as a nation disapprove of Bush’s policies?
We could have done that in 2004 by not re-electing him. Guess what happened instead?
The extreme Left are idiots. They are obsessed with Bush to the exclusion of anything else. Kucinich is a moron, leading a team of morons, who are wasting the country’s time trying to get revenge on a lame duck for beating him and his fellow buffoons in the Presidential elections.
We’ll see if the rest of the Democratic leadership is as petty and stupid as Kucinich and his ilk. I rather doubt they are that stupid, but I have been known to underestimate their capacity for trivialities before.
As mentioned, it is vaguely amusing to see Kucinich remove his shoe, point the gun at his foot, and say, “Ready…Aim…”

Shodan
Oh, now I understand where you were in the 90s on gratuitous impeachment proceedings. Glad you cleared that up.
