It is strange that those who begrudge giving help to the poor, are the ones who want the poor to acknowledge their generosity when the country helps the needy out.

What if your “nutritious food” that I should be so grateful to have and accept is something I’m allergic to? Should I still be required to eat it? Should I get some “alternative”? Can I get a cash-value trade so I can buy something I CAN eat?

Just kind of ironic. I wish death on people by proposing nutritious food for them! Brilliant! “Feed me sir? How dare you! You wish to kill me do you? En guarde!”.

I should have pulled their crap food away from them…“not with my money you don’t, fatty!”. I’m sure somewhere there is a truly disadvantaged person on food stamps, however my plan would HELP them too.

Again, let’s see some statistics, please.

I’m going to let this slide as an insult on the grounds that you are just too slow to understand the rules.

On the other hand, I also am developing a strong impression that you are trolling, so if you wish to continue posting here, I would urge you to ratchet back the personal hostility while providing a good deal more substance to your posts.

This is silly.

**The Tao’s Revenge** has pointed out a hole in _your_ logic related to property rights. You seem to respect _some_ natural property rights, but not others. He has asked you to explain why.

Your response that _he_ should abide by the foolish result of your poorly-thought-out logic is absurd, because _he_ didn’t come up with it. _His_ formulation of property rights is perfectly consistent with living on land that was taken by conquest.

It’s only hypocritical to own historically “stolen” property if you claim that property rights are innate and granted by God.

Question – would it be against the rules (the “no calling someone a liar”) if one were to say, “well obviously you’re simply just relying on stereotypes – you have no data, and therefore, we cannot assume there is any truth to what you are saying”?

Because, that is obviously the OP’s case?

My OP asked if it would be a good idea for the gov’t to supply highly nutritious protein mush instead of giving poor people unlimited food ideas.

There isn’t much “data” needed. I guess I could find some data about how poor people are most likely to be obese, but I’m sure you’d say I was being a meanie to offer such a thing.

It’s obvious that not all food stamp money goes for highly nutritious food…do I need a cite for that?

It is kind of comical how wanting to improve the nutrition of a bunch of people is met with such resistance. “First they came for the twinkies…and I said nothing, because I was not a twinkie!”

No, I think that idea _sucks_. First of all, “protein mush” isn’t _food_. We don’t feed zoo animals like that, why would we feed people like that? Does this “mush” have sufficient fiber? Vitamin C? What about people with kidney disease (which also shows all too frequently among the poor) who can be harmed by too much protein in the diet? Is there sufficient calcium? Is there any consideration that women of childbearing age need significant iron but elderly men can be harmed by too much?

Your “protein mush” is far too simplistic an approach to feeding people.

Bravo, way to stick up for poor people! Let them eat twinkies and coke. That’ll do wonders for them.

It’s not like a foodstuff can be made to vary or anything…or have any fiber or vitamin C in it. Because I didn’t specifically address that, that obviously is a deal breaker. Vitamin C is in breakfast cereal, it’s obviously a very difficult thing to add to any foodstuff.

They don’t feed animals in zoos specifically formulated foodstuffs? What do they feed them? Twinkies and coca cola?

They don’t feed them “protein mush”, they feed them FOOD. You know - vegetables, grains, flesh… the stuff animals evolved to eat. What you propose is even MORE processed than most so-called “processed foods”.

Saying “protein mush is a bad idea” is NOT the same as “let them eat twinkies and coke”.

Then your OP is based on a wrong premise. Food stamps are dispensed in a predefined allotment every month, not unlimited.

Your posting of the poor here also contains a bunch of stereotypes, and blatant insults, no substance. Also I knew what your answer would be when you wished death on me. I recognized your views for what they were. I wanted to drag the ugliness of your views out for everyone to see.

Well here’s another cite:

You’ll note Obesity is less then 1/3 of the poor, equalizing with the other classes, and increasing the fastest in the _ **rich** _. Your uncited claims of most of the poor being obese is factually wrong by any definition of “most” that doesn’t distort the word out of all meaning.

So in light of these statistics, would you like to amend your position for High Protein Mush for everyone, especially the rich? I mean you proposed this for people’s health, not out of bigotry, right?

Clearly not all the food, especially the upscale food source, are very healthy either, apparently. As I just cited.

Exactly! Now assuming this isn’t clothed bigotry against the poor why not extend your _wonderful nutritious scheme_ to the rich who are in ever more need of it everyday?

Because the rich aren’t getting their food on the dole. As for the unlimited food that was a typo or two sentences…I forgot to erase the latter words.

I wished death on you because I thought it was such a ridiculous question on your part and thought I should fulfill your request. Obviously, I don’t wish death on random people who I’ve never even met. I thought it odd that free food was associated with “wishing death”.

I would guess that obesity is even more a problem for those on food stamps, but no I don’t have a cite for it.

The food, in the long term, was meant to IMPROVE the lives of the poor. Something that improves your health is a good thing. Read “Angela’s Ashes”…they were eating sheep’s eyes they were so hungry. That guy would have though he’d died and gone to heaven if he could have good, wholesome food, no matter what it tasted like.

Eventually if the gov’t takes over all health care then it may make sense to restrict food choices of the ‘rich’ as the gov’t is on the hook for their care as well. I could see it coming, but for now, I’ll pick on the most vulnerable, defenseless people. Just kidding.

You, sir, should stop making posts on a message board and devote your free time to taking an advanced degree which would improve your education and employability skills. You know that would be much better for you than choosing to spend time advocating your ideas on a message board. So why don’t we make it mandatory that you do so?

When you’ve answered that, you may have a handle on why many of us believe it is improper to unilaterally make mandatory nutrition choices for our fellow citizens.

So you want to make the poor suffer, or what? What does the dole have to do with anything? The Rich got huge tax breaks and government assistance. Why shouldn’t everyone in the banking sector and by extension, wall street, be limited to high protein mush? I’d honestly love me some mush just for the grim satisfaction of, say, AIG’s board of execs being condemned to it.

As you can see, being poor hasn’t limited my mental development. I have a very sharp memory as you shall find out.

It wasn’t. Your previous wish that poor with medical problems die in the street rather then receive assistance coupled with your constant torrent of insults, put downs, and hateful and wrong stereotypes that prompted the question. Clearly you weren’t looking at the poor through objective eyes.

For example:

Well considering the poor aren’t mostly obese would you be willing to reconsider whether any nutrition issues are ‘Mush level’?

It sounds like a desperate situation. Which is the kind of situation existant food stamp programs go along way to avoiding.

Personally I’d have to say biggest problem with American food is the high fructose corn syrup lobby. It’s in everything. Other countries don’t have the weight problems because even their unhealthy food is generally healthier. Also FDA food labeling loop holes let companies hide the true health impact of their food.

Also American “Juice” is horrid. It’s seldom actually mostly juice. I have a friend from South America who came up here college. She put on a lot of weight. See in South America juice actually comes from fruits and vegetables with minimal processing. American juice is generally refined to the point of being sugar water. It was more then juice, but the only difference for her was which country’s food she was eating.

I’m not saying my one antidote by it’s self is inductive of American food, but in light of countries like Canada having a similar demographic make up, but lower obesity levels ([cite](http://eaves.ca/2008/07/08/fatness-index-canada-vs-united-states/)) it really begs of the question of what we’re letting in our food supply that we shouldn’t.

Being poor growing I learned to cook from scratch. I can make delicious meals from base common ingredients. I never once used a recipe that called for high fructose corn syrup, and seldom come across one, yet how much corn syrup do you see in ingredients labels at the store?

I’m not on the public dole. I’m gainfully employed so I don’t need your permission to do anything.

Do you understand the difference between someone relying on public generosity and someone spending their own money?

Ahh so switching to mush isn’t about nutritition at all, as you claimed earlier. You just want to punish people. Why couldn’t you be honest with this was the sole reason? Afraid trying to lower the quality of life and increasing the suffering of a socio-economic class for no reason then spite would seem bigoted?

That’s probably because it is bigoted. It’s very bigoted.

Again, in light of the trillion dollar bailout, tax breaks, and government handouts, the difference between anyone with stocks and foodstamps is? Cause it looks to me like they’re both on the public dole in one way or another.l

Well I view it as unpleasant but good for them in the long run. Kind of like cod liver oil.

Maybe you’re right. Since the gov’t is paying everyone health care or will be, screw it, the gov’t has the right to dictate everyone’s life down the most minute detail…it’s on their dime. I’d love that. It’d be hilarious.
