# Reporting an offensive post

How and where do we report a post we find to be offensive? It’s been so long that I don’t remember how. I’ve poked around trying to figure it out but have not found a way yet.

In my experience, in the pit, reporting won’t help.

You are allowed to insult people and be offensive in the Pit. That’s kind of its purpose.
You spend enough time in the Pit that you should know this by now.

Even in the Pit though, not everything goes. I’ve seen people warned and even banned for what they do there, and I may have even received a note years ago, I don’t remember all that well.
Things like blatant racism, wishing people harm, promoting illegal behavior, and so on.

But the thing Baker wanted to report didn’t rise to that level, and IMHO would have been perfectly cromulent in any forum here. The exchange was basically
“Somebody who likes pets can’t be bad.”
“Hitler liked pets.”
And Baker thought that was horribly offensive instead of the very first response probably most people thought of. (I know it was for me.)

I wasn’t commenting on any particular post, especially since no specific post was being referenced anywhere in this thread.

One important thing that I would like to add is that if there is any question at all, please report (flag) the post. We would much rather have too many flags than too few. Even if the post was in the Pit and you think the flag won’t be acted on, go ahead and report it.
Don’t ever be shy about flagging a post.
