Reporting spam and User categories - 2 questions in one post

User categories are to the right of user names and are usually guest, Member, Charter Member and occasionally Registered User. That’s not counting the various Mod, SDSAB or custom titles that people paid for way back when. I recently ran across a couple of posters that had nothing at all in that spot. How does that happen?

The vBulletin user groups were copied into the Title field on Discourse. vBulletin user names were copied into the Name field on Discourse. New users do not go through the database transfer process (obviously, since they were never members on vBulletin) and will not have these fields automatically filled in.

FWIW, the important user groups from vBulletin were also ported over, so the Charter Member, Member, SDSAB, and retired staff user groups still exist.

I think Discourse automatically replaced spaces with underscores, but I’m not certain.

Yes, spaces were replaced with underscores. Thing Fish became Thing_Fish. We tried to tell everyone to contact us if they were having issues accessing their account under Discourse, but that ended up being a lot like trying to herd cats. A lot of users created new accounts instead. We can still fix things if someone wants access to their old account, but it’s a lot more difficult for us to do it if the user has created a new account.

Thanks for the explanation. Still can’t believe it took me two years to notice this. I could probably put this example in the “First thing to go” thread under vision.
