I can’t think of a single thing I ever saw him in that I liked, but I have to admit, he always seemed like an okay guy. RIP, Swayze. ---

I had the pleasure of working with Patrick and his wife, Lisa, many years ago. They were both genuinely nice people, and Patrick was always really friendly with his fans who would come up and ask for autographs. Patrick was also one of those people who put his arm on your shoulder when he would talk to you. Although it can be annoying when people do that, he seemed to get away with it with his down-home charm and ease. They had a ranch and worked on it pretty much by themselves - he would tell stories of shoveling horse manure, baling hay, cleaning stalls - and you could tell by the way he described it that he really enjoyed doing it. So sorry to hear this news - and I cannot imagine the pain Lisa is going through right now. ---

I always wanted to write the guy off, but: 1. He seemed less smarmy than most of the actors of his era. 2. He was a good looking guy who could dance, but still looked like a man doing so (see any 80s video by Whitney Houston to see the opposite). 3. Even at the height of _Dirty Dancing_ hype, I heard “She’s Like the Wind” and thought, “Man, that guy can sing a little.” 4. The SNL skit with Chris Farley. 5. His role in _Donnie Darko_. I saw him on the cover of the Nat’l Enquirer at H-E-B this evening. The headline was “Swayze sent home to die.” I thought, “They probably got this one right.” RIP to a down home Texas boy. ---

I watched him in \*The Beast \* on A&E and thought he was thoroughly badass. He literally gave the performance of his life in that show. I was pulling for him to get better. He had an impressive body of work and seemed like a genuinely good person. My sympathies go out to his family. ---
