It looks like they’re getting a [U-Visa](https://www.uscis.gov/humanitarian/victims-of-human-trafficking-and-other-crimes/victims-of-criminal-activity-u-nonimmigrant-status), which “may” allow them to apply for a [Green Card For A Victim Of A Crime](https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-eligibility/green-card-for-a-victim-of-a-crime-u-nonimmigrant). How much faster or slower that makes the process of getting a Green Card compared to someone that didn’t get a U-Visa, I have no idea. However, between the use of “may” (as opposed to “shall”) and the section on discretion, suggests to me\*, that he could just deny them all for any or no reason at all. \*me being someone that knows next to nothing about immigration policies. ---

It’s a point worth emphasizing that DeSantis apparently is opposed to legal immigration, and is creating publicity stunts around LEGAL immigrants. ---

If anything, I’m kind of surprised he overplayed his hand so quickly and didn’t just wait for a local opportunity. Don’t mistake DeSantis for Trump. He is much smarter and therefore much scarier. ---

Yes. In his, and more importantly, his fans’ eyes, White === American and non-White === unwanted dangerous nation-destroying intruder. It really is no more complicated than that. And somewhere near 100 million Americans apparently believe that shit to the core of their being. ---

Boy - I don’t really see it that way. I do not feel differently towards someone coming to the US whether they are an “migrant” or an “asylum seeker.” I’m willing to welcome pretty much anyone - especially if they are reasonably healthy and willing to work. I also tend to be somewhat dubious of some of the claims of asylum - but, like I said, I really don’t care. Let 'em in. Our failure to welcome far more people fleeing conflicts we’ve played a major role in is yet another area the US ought to be embarrassed about.
