My aunt used to be part of Mike Huckabee’s political team. I’d love to tweak her about this at the upcoming family holidays, but I love my family and it would cause too much stress on my mom, her sister. I love my mom more than I desire to say “Gotcha” My aunt is so Republican she honestly thinks Ronald Reagan was one of our great Presidents. ---

The character Gobber (the village blacksmith) in _How to Train Your Dragon_ is supposedly gay - not that there’s anything explicit in the movies or TV show. There is one ambiguous comment in the second movie, and a statement by those involved in creating the movie that yes, the character is gay. Other than not being married (although he does reference a former wife, whether entirely in jest or actually having had a wife at one point I don’t know) he acts just like everyone else. Which is probably what makes him so terrifying to the gay-haters - he acts like everyone else, he blends in, and nobody seems to give a damn about what he’s doing behind closed doors. ---

I agree that the OP title is false and misleading, and I agree it would be smart to request it be changed. I also agree that the GOP tacitly supports fringe nutjobs for political gain–but killing gays is not in any sense part of any GOP platform. Not no way, not no how. Cruz’s “I don’t know what this gentleman has said and what he hasn’t said” takes the urinal cake. C’mon, Ted, he’s asking you about something that has already happened, and you didn’t hear anything about it? You were there! Nobody said anything, got you curious enough to check? Nobody stood before you, pale and shivering, wide-eyed saying “Christ Jesus, I can’t believe what I just heard.” Ted doesn’t know anybody gay? No one even semi-close, a cousin, perhaps, a schoolmate? No one close enough, dear enough to call him up and say Ted, you gotta say something, Ted, this man wants to kill me! Hello? Ted? Hello?.. The man is assembled from some pretty shiny parts, but there’s at least one missing. ---

If it bothers people who happen to be hyper-partisan douches, all the better. When your [national platform](http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2012/08/gop-platform-bring-back-dadt-ban-same-sex-marriage) and [a majority of your state platforms](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/05/gop-platform_n_5242421.html) are anti-gay, don’t be shocked when people get hyperbolic about it. Especially when three of your brightest spend the weekend at a “Kill The Gays” summit (and that is not hyperbolic, since you don’t seem to know the difference). ---
