Guys, guys…

It’s simple really. You just narrow down the time frame so that it includes the smallest number of violent incidents from the right.

When did that senator snatch the phone from a students hand again? Let’s start right after that.

Wait… Trump just praised a congressman for assaulting a reporter\*. We’ll start after that.

\*law and order party, folks.

> You put up a dozen links in this thread. If you are going to quote one, it would be nice if you say which one. That’s what i’m Saying. Your response suggests you don’t think this reasonable.

I just don’t think it will matter to you. You pretty much conceded it already.

> [@Scylla](#):
>
> I have also argued that the left has been getting pretty aggressive recently. I’ve mentioned it in more than one thread we have both participated in. Several times I said 18 months.

And, again (we’re getting to the point where we’re just repeating ourselves), I know the why you chose that. Because that’s the right wing talking point you took and found support for. Not over some principled rational that you want to take a stance against violence, but because it fit the conclusion you wanted to make.

> [@Scylla](#):
>
> Several times I also said that I voted against Trump, and was planning on voting for Dems in November. I specifically cited my reason for change as the recent aggression that has been growing from the left.

Which, again I’m repeating yourself, wasn’t an issue you gave a shit about when the Democrats were in power and the victims. When democrats and non-politicians are the victims, it wasn’t (and isn’t) even on your radar. You didn’t say to yourself “Hey, look at the violence and threats against democrats who voted for Obamacare. Hey, look at the fact Obama gets 400% more death threats than Dubya did. Hey, look at the fact the far right has killed dozens of people in the last decade while liberals did vastly less. Fuck, even campaign managers threating their opponent with firing squads and hanging is pretty bad. Maybe I shouldn’t vote Republican.” Nope it wasn’t until you bought into the talking point that it mattered to you.

So, you’ve made your point. Again, a useless, bullshit rationalization of a point, but you made it. I’ve countered it, both with actual stats and arguments. I’ve pointed out your inconsistencies, your cherry picking, and your post-hoc decision making. I’m not sure what else I can do. I certainly can’t convince you, I know that much.

>
> There is no incentive, or value, in harassing the party that isn’t in power. Why would someone camp out in front of Chuck Schumer’s house and yell shit at him if he doesn’t have the power to go to the can without ol’ Mitch’s approval? Does it make sense to yell at a Democrat and complain about all the stuff he’s NOT doing because he’s basically an empty suit?
>
> I’m going to kick a Clinton supporter out of my restaurant because Clinton, did what? Did she tweet something stupid from her house in Chappaqua?
>
> Republicans aren’t violently complaining because… THEY WON… They are getting literally everything they dreamed of. Rich people got their tax break. Illegals are being harassed at the border. Obamacare is being neutered. Right wing radical judges are on the Court. The Senate is talking about cutting entitlements.
>
> Times are GREAT for Republicans, you hold the Presidency, both houses of the Legislature, and a majority of the Supreme Court. They’re going to take to the streets and start burning garbage? Why would they?

**This**. Is an interesting and excellent question.

When Dick Durbin applied the nuclear option for a Supreme Court nominee, I believe Mitch McConnell said “you are going to regret this, and sooner than you think.”

I think that was prophetic.

Times are divisive. More than they have ever been in my life. There is danger in not working together. There is danger in escalating.

I think that it is **extremely** fucking stupid for the left to resort to violence and harassment because:

1. It is morally wrong

2. They can win by being reasonable. Trump is scary. Being scarier than Trump makes Trump the less scary choice. Being reasonable wins votes.

3. The right will return the favor, and, frankly, they will be a lot better at the violence than the left is. Shutting down republican/conservative speeches has been an almost exclusive tactic of the left recently. The right just started like two days ago. This is a bad sign. Antifa has been provocative and violent. Groups from the right are now beginning to show up ready and prepared for this.
If we don’t stop now it is going to get really bad.
Lots of people are going to die.

We need liberalism very badly right now, and it can win by being reasonable, sane, and by sticking to it’s non violent, non intimidation based ethos.

Radical leftism, the violence hate and insanity that goes with it will cause the left to lose.

Oh yeah: Breitbart’s list includes stuff like “February 2, 2018: CNN Writer Thanks God for Fatal GOP Train Wreck” and “January 31, 2018: Party thrown to hurl stuff at television image of Trump.”

By that standard, half of Trump’s tweets would make the list, and probably a dozen or so quotes from each of his pep rallies would do the same. We’d have a list into four digits long, just from the yuuuuuge guy himself.

Thank you for actually looking. As I mentioned I didn’t count 170 of the list, mostly for reasons like that.

So where are the incidents where people are killed by left-wing terrorists?

You are not taking into account that the left wing is so sneaky that they do their terroristic efforts like a ninja, leaving no trace behind.

???

That’s not relevant to anything I am discussing.

I don’t think it would make sense to hold Democrat officials or their supporters to task for left wing terrorists. I assume they don’t approve, and aren’t a part of it.

(Bolding mine.)

Good. Now rightist elements have been responsible for at least 36 dead and 43 injured since the beginning of last year.

No one in this thread is in favor of violence. **Scylla** has just failed to convince anyone that the GOP’s present political messaging (that liberals are spreading violence and hate) is anything aside from political messaging. I’m sure lots of conservatives are buying into this political message and propaganda like Breitbart puts out, but that’s all based on an agenda, not on facts. The facts show that there’s been no increase in left-wing violence, and the same trend for overall violence holds (aside from an uptick in white supremacist violence) for the last decade or two – right-wing extremism accounts for significantly more violence, today and in the recent past, than left wing extremism.

I’ve been over this a couple of times.
White Supremacist stabs black men is one of the 36. Do you think we hold Republican officials or constituents responsible for that?

Nazi kid harasses teen girls, stabs two who intervene. What is Republican redponsibilty here.

Nazis and racists are bad.

At the last election, 46.1% of the vote went to Republicans.

Obviously that only covers people who are both a) of voting age and b) could be bother to vote, but let’s extrapolate for a second and say that approximately 40-45% of Americans would qualify as Republican in their beliefs, either now or in the future.

Are you really arguing that you think 40% of your country are contemptible?
