That is just \*soooo \*unfair! The Pubbies are entirely open to any policy on global warning that doesn’t involve unfair restrictions on business! Outside of that, they are wide open. It would be un-American to restrict the profits of red-blooded and patriotic Americans who display thier civic virtue by astute investment in sensible politicians. The Republican Party certainly needs to start taking action on environmental issues, but frankly, I’m even more frustrated by the many liberals I know who do nothing more than pay impassioned lip service to environmental causes. As I once heard someone on NPR say (paraphrasing), “Everyone agrees that the environment should be protected, but nobody’s willing to make the necessary changes in their own lives.” ---

I drive a small Ford Focus Wagon, not an SUV or Sports Car. My next car will be a Hybrid. I hope that it will be a Plug-in. I have Solar Panels on my house. 6700 watts worth. I use Compact Fluorescent lighting in 85% of my lighting. I recycle and I stopped buying papers. I mainly buy used books as a cheap method of Re-use. I compost all of my grass clipping and Leaves. I am not even a liberal, just a Green Republican. I support many environmental groups and all park initiatives. I voted Green Party in 2000. If you care, join a local environmental group, we are not all pot-smoking hippies and refugees from the 60s. {Not that there is anything wrong with that} ---

Obviously, that quote was hyperbole, and there _are_ people who act on their convictions, but I get frustrated with my friends and family who are constantly railing against Hummers, Republicans, and other environmental Bad Guys while often turning a blind eye to things _they_ could be doing to limit waste. (Like when a good friend of mine decided to buy a new car, briefly considered a hybrid, but went for the one with all the bells and whistles instead. Oo, shiny!) My roommates have gotten better in the last year, though. I like that quote because when I heard it a few years ago, I realized that I was one of those self-righteous hypocrites. Hearing it made me start to examine my own life and the changes I could make to lessen my environmental impact. ---

Yeah, the Democrats have done so much on this issue. For example, Bill Clinton never even submitted the Kyoto Treaty to the Senate for ratification. Perhaps this has to do with the fact that the Senate voted unanimously for an amendment by Robert Byrd (a Democrat) to essentially reject the treaty’s provisions. Blame the GOP if you wish, but Democrats haven’t lifted a finger to do anything about global warming outside of see _An Inconvenient Truth_. ---
