Sure they could, but they appear to have made the business decision to go the other way. Getting rid of Miramax, etc. I think they believe they can enhance the value of their current suite of programming and broadcasting assets if they can prevent their competitors from stealing audiences with racier programming. I think it’s pretty atrocious behaviour myself and it could come back to bite them on the ass, uh, butt, later, but as a near-term business proposition it’s not entirely without logic. If nothing else it makes their competitors get up in front of Congress and defend “smut,” which just has to be good for a laugh.
