I seem to recall an appearance on Leno where he yelled “God bless John Ashcroft!” and implored the audience to applaud. Surreal. I just read a newish book called Michael Moore is a big fat stupid white man. ---

Ditto that, I have his first two books and used to love his HBO show. Then he just got all bitter towards the little guy. And whether or not his points are valid, it’s always funnier to see those in high places taken down a peg than to kick the underdog. If he wants to be a straight commentator, then fine, but as a comedian I think he’s really lost it. Just remembered, add [Silver City](http://www.apple.com/trailers/newmarket/silver_city.html) to the list of films about Bush this Fall. This one being a fictional account ala Wag the Dog staring Chris Cooper of Adaptation fame as a very GW-ish politician and Richard Dreyfuss as his Karl Rove-ish assistant. ---

Uh, no, actually, it wasn’t. **Battlefield Earth** was not merely a critical flop, it was a commercial one as well. And I’m sure quite a few of the people who actually did pay money to see it were just curious to see how bad it was. Not by any stretch of the imagination was the movie “pretty popular”, nor does it have any apparent fan base, fanatical and irrational or otherwise. Maybe you were thinking of the recent **Star Wars** films. ---
