Uh, no, actually, it wasn’t. Battlefield Earth was not merely a critical flop, it was a commercial one as well. And I’m sure quite a few of the people who actually did pay money to see it were just curious to see how bad it was. Not by any stretch of the imagination was the movie “pretty popular”, nor does it have any apparent fan base, fanatical and irrational or otherwise.
