Oh great and powerful Gods of the SDMB!
I, your most lowly of servents, do humbly beseach you for this one small boon, that my life might be simpler and that praise for thy greatness might flow from my lips like honey. Certainly, I, the father of lice, a consort of vermin, am not worth to stand in your fearsome and mighty presence, yet I humbly implore you to hear my plea and grant my insignificant wish.
Do you think you could turn on the feature that puts a dot on the envelope icon in the thread listing when you’ve posted to a thread? It makes keeping track of where you’ve been much easier.

If I remember correctly, they turned on this feature briefly in the previous version and it caused the boards to slow down to a near stop. When they disabled this feature the boards returned to their normal responsiveness.
Assuming my memory is correct, then I doubt if they’ll consider enabling this again.
(I administer a vB installation at work and I just checked the configuration instructions. Some of the options have a warning attached that indicates that it is server intensive, but not this option. I don’t know if that is meaningful or not.)

Yep. Those little dots DO eat up an enormous amount of resources, and will slow the board down even further. I bet you didn’t think that was possible. It’s one of those things that we’d LIKE to enable, but we can’t.

I’m but a simple soul, and it’s enough keeping up with which threads I’ve already been to, and which threads have new posts without adding a third icon into the mix. Just IMHO.
