Very droll. In the spirit of fighting ignorance, try [this one instead](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBR2yAAN_RM).

The thing is, the trailer part of a semi is basically a big aluminum box. The reason it disintegrated like that is because there’s just not that much there. It looks impressive because the whole trailer disappears, but in reality you don’t need a train to get that effect. Just plowing through the trailer with another semi, for instance, would most likely have the same effect.

Always wear a high visibility jacket!

Great footage, but I’m confused. Was that a comedy video? Why is the guy wearing two hard-hats? And how is a safety jacket supposed to help?

It’s a bit of both, maybe. And you’ll notice that he was still standing at the end. I think that’s argument enough as to the effectiveness of his protective clothing.

That’s how.

Still, though. I don’t think I’ve ever had any conversation so intense that I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between “paved road” and “train tracks”. I could imagine maybe if she’d pulled over and didn’t realize she was on a crossing, but to actually turn onto them? How do you manage to drive while paying that little attention?

How self-centred can people be? Save somebody’s life and get griped at?
I heard (from **yojimbo** on his first aid course, IIRC) that a woman in Ireland, rescued with a broken leg from a car wreck by the fire service, had to be cut out of her jeans so the paramedics could tend to her in the ambulance.

She later sued them for the price of the jeans.

People are assholes.
I honestly think if we weren’t there and the driver didn’t see her that she’d have sat there until it hit her, like a deer or a rabbit or something. You never know how you’re going to react under pressure like that, and you shouldn’t judge a person by what they say or do then, I don’t think. I’m sure she never thought she’d be dumb enough not to even open the damned door and get ready to run, but there it is.
That’s the honest truth. Guy in my model railroad club was promoted to engineer on the SP. Like clockwork, it seemed every six months he’d strike an automobile – mostly abandoned joyrides with nobody in them. We were calling him the car-killer. Then there was a station wagon on the tracks with a woman in it, who just covered her face in those last few seconds. We stopped teasing him after that.
