It seems to me that the defining attribute of the modern conservative is a bone-deep, stomach-churning, all-encompassing terror. The government is coming for your guns! The gays are coming for your marriage! The Mexicans are coming for your jobs! And _there are bears **everwhere**!_ I dunno. Shrieking cowardice doesn’t strike me as very “manly.” YMMV. ---

Ya know, this. And I’ve seen this demonstrated my entire life, through several presidencies, couple wars, in recessions and in bountiful years. The driving force behind conservative group think has always been fear, followed closely by selfishness and the inability to accept progress. It’s so weak and unappealing.
