As for spelling, yes, the US party is the Democratic Party. But in Thailand, the party there is officially transliterated as the Democrat Party, so that spelling would have to be allowed in that context.

The Democratic Party isn’t “some organization.” It’s you and me and a lot of other people here on the SDMB. The “Democrat Party” trolling is directed at us, not some faraway DNC office. I also acknowledge that we have Republicans here too, which is why I agree with iiandyiiii that slurs like “Rethuglicans” should likewise be against the board rules.

So, it would be okay to say, “They went to Mercy Health, The Jew Hospital?” as it is referring to an organization, not a poster?
Referring to things as a “Jew-whatever” has a long and storied history as a weapon of anti-Semitism. A story with a chapter that ended with the deaths of six million people. It isn’t the same thing at all.

The type of jackass that uses the term just to annoy (and I’ll go ahead and say it explicitly, in case I have been unclear: it really is just low-level trolling, no argument from me, when used intentionally for that purpose) already despises the Democrats; either name for the party has the exact same effect on them. In the OP, the poster in question specifically said that he did it in order to be an asshole, and so admitted to trolling.
Everyone else has simply said that it’s a jerk thing to do that says quite a bit about the poster, but otherwise doesn’t give it a second thought.
Just because we recognize it as trolling doesn’t mean that it gets a rise out of us. Just because we point out that it is trolling doesn’t mean that it upsets us.

I don’t know about the dog whistle thing, and I don’t think it is, so I will not answer the question that you posed to me as if it were my statement to defend. It’s just an attempt to insult. It’s being a troll. A dog whistle is a completely different thing.

As a non-practicing Jew, I do think the analogy about a “Jew lawyer” or a “Jew doctor” is on-point. I am aware of the Holocaust, and – while I take the point about the extreme to which anti-Semitism has been taken – I also think it starts with a great many tiny insults – insults that some think don’t have any consequence.
In war, we create long lists of epithets to dehumanize the ‘enemy.’ It makes it easier to kill them. it’s a bit of a slippery slope.
Somebody probably is using the term “Democrat Party” unaware of its pejorative connotation. Why not mention to them that it has this negative association and ask them to stop.
I don’t feel much different about RepubliKKKans or Pig-losi or Obummer or Moochelle or DemonRats or Cheeto Jesus, either, FWIW.
IMHO, this forum (with its exceptions) should either be a place where the rhetoric is elevated, or … not

Agreed. They don’t really know what they’re doing, except it’s deliberately mispronouncing a proper name and it annoys some people.
I don’t care that someone mangles a political party’s name. But it makes them a defiant toddler and I will freely describe that situation in accurate language.
Moreover, circling back to the OP, I think it’s appropriate to ban defiant toddlers who state that they don’t understand that they’re defiant toddlers.
