The first President to make it to 100. His legacy of post-Presidency activism is incredible. He helped a lot of people through the years. It is kind of odd that our 2nd President, John Adams (age 90 and 247 days, passed on July 4th, 1826, same day in fact as Jefferson) was only passed in the 2000s. Now passed by Reagan, Ford, Bush & Carter. ---

He may not have achieved as much as President as he would have liked, but he certainly achieved an unmatchable post-Presidency. His example of selfless service may never be equaled. Absolutely. Protocol is that the flag at Federal facilities is flown at half-staff for 30 days after the death of a current or former president. I thought Carter would advocate for bringing him. It’s kind of like how Biden is going to Trump’s second inauguration. It’s just a thing you kind of do if you are president…and aren’t a loser like Trump. Trump will go if he can, though. It’s a publicity moment for him. He was at HW Bush’s, but he was also president at the time. ---

Are there any truly major leaders from the Cold War who are still alive? In recent years, Gorbachev, George HW Bush, Schultz and Kissinger all died and now Carter. On further reflection James Baker certainly counts as a major leader and is still alive. Though Carter was the last head of government from either Cold War superpower. While he failed to win re-election his governing legacy is enormous: the Camp David accords, transportation de-regulation, the appointment of Paul Volcker who ultimately beat inflation and through his Defense Secretary Harold Brown: the “second offset” which lead to the development of technologies like GPS and stealth airplanes. ---

Bummer…kinda wish he made it to 2025. No particular reason. Just got so close. I am unclear about his record as a president but I think it is clear he is the best ex-president we have ever had. He seemed a genuinely good guy. He will be missed. RIP ETA: Any bets on whether Trump will go to the funeral? ---
