# Restaurants with "service charges"--yea or nay?

On our honeymoon in Greece last month, (Thessaloniki, Kavala) every place we went brought out a bottle of water without being asked for it, but it was usually only 1 Euro or less, and as I am literally unable eat a meal without cold water (no matter what oher beverage I might also be drinking with my food) I didn’t mind.

Incidentally, I can’t say enough good things about the food & wine in Greece. I have spent time in over 15 different countries in Europe in ust the past 3 years, but Greek cuisine is simply incredible; Fresh, highly flavored, generous portions and extremely affordable by (“Western”) European standards.

the restaurant delivery service like door dash do this and their explanation is "it keeps them open and pays the drivers "  
So you pay for the food the sales tax on the food the delivery charge that varies depending on the restaurant and a service fee that’s 10-15 percent of your total so a 30 dollar order can cost as much as 15$ or more to get it delivered
