Last few days,my 5yr old laptop started slowing down, then came to frozen welcome page. I tried cold start over and over and managed to do safe mode and gave in and did factory settings restore. The system restore I used to do didn’t even work anymore.

WHEW, the factory settings worked as my browser 's running smoothly. I just had to reinstall my software and office not a big time consuming task.

Hopefully it will stay that way. I did that and it worked fine till the windows updates slowed it back to where it was before. I had to re-do everything again and exclude that batch of updates, which I don’t think one can do anymore.
