Barns are popular; around here you can get [Dairy](http://www.dairybarn.com/about_us.html) in one, and [Beverages](https://www.google.com/search?q=beverage+barn&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a) are common nationwide. ---

In the mid-Atlantic you can get a mattress in a barn. And furniture. And while it’s not a man-made structure, we find our pizza in [grottos](http://grottopizza.com/). [sic] ---

Ah, that reminds me of the old [Paperback Grotto](http://www.yelp.com/biz/paperback-grotto-dekalb) in DeKalb, IL, just steps from the NIU campus. I’d assumed it was long-gone, but to my delighted surprise it appears to be thriving. “Grotto” is quite appropriate given the nature of the business. ---

There used to be a knockoff of White Castle, called White Tower. There is still Filene’s Basement. ---
