I would say the mini-van full of kids is the exception; not the rule. It wouldn’t hurt for a cashier to use some common sense during the transaction. Personally, I think this would take more time than the transaction needs to take. If you give them a drink holder, they can pull away from the window and distribute the drinks after they’re no longer inconveniencing the guy in back of them.
The coins first rule stands. It’s common sense.
